I think it's great to have a filename convention.
However I think it would be preferable to use the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601 ISO 8601] date format (YYYY-MM-DD) and put the type after the name.
This way, an alphabetic file listing will sort the files by ascending date, and group the rallye materials together.
i.e.:

yyyy-'''mm'''-'''dd'''-"NAME"-"TYPE"

I agree. Any objection if I change yyyy-dd-mm to yyyy-mm-dd everywhere it occurs?

Ric agreed that yyyy-dd-mm was a mistake. I'm changing it to yyyy-mm-dd everywhere.
