Choosing a Finish Location

A good finish location will have many of the following characteristics:

• Place orders at the counter – so each person or group of people can order and pay separately
• Various types of food – because not everyone wants the same thing (not even pizza)
• Open late – to allow at least an hour after the finish closes for protests, announcements, awards, and discussion
• Good lighting – so people can read the critique
• Plenty of room – so everyone gets a seat (including normal non-rallyist customers, if we don't have a room/area reserved)
• Near the rallye's end – because no one likes long final traverses to the finish

Finish Locations

The following have been used as finish locations for past rallyes.

St. John's Bar and Grill

During the COVID epidemic, we have been finishing here because it has a large quantity of outdoor seating.

• Review: Burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheesesteak sandwiches all good.
• Details:
  • Reserve a few outdoor tables at least 1 week before.
  • Being outside means no one is bothered by our award announcements and it is fairly quiet for us.
  • Outside, there are no TV screens for the computerized scoring system
  • Parking varies widely, even Saturday afternoon. Signs warn that valuables should not be left in cars.

San Jose Round Table Pizza

  • Large rooms that we can reserve; plenty of room for 30+ cars (depending on how many rooms we get)
  • TV screens that we can connect to the computerized scoring system

Jake's of Sunnyvale

Mountain Mike's Pizza (Campbell)

  • They have a reservable room, but may want a deposit toward purchases.
  • They have more room than Jakes of Saratoga, but is very noisy.
  • Used by Dave and Cris in February, 2019.

  • There's a room that can be reserved that might hold the people from a dozen cars or so.

• We have never used this as a finish, but there is more parking and a larger eating area (all one room, often noisy).

Giovanni's New York Pizzaria

  • There is a reserveable side room with long tables.
  • Tell them we expect 50 people, so they won't seat others in this side room.
  • Waiters take orders and deliver food, so a tip is expected.
  • Open Saturdays until 9:30 PM.
