Our normal awards and participation plaques ("par plaques") are business-card sized refrigerator magnets. These are printed in color, laminated, and affixed by hand to adhesive magnets.

The Awards Committee can design par plaques and awards, but like ideas and sample art (often what is on the flyer) a month or more before the rallye. They often look similar, but don't have to.

"Awards Committee" is an overstatement. As of 2021

  • Eric Anderson designs the artwork and produces PDFs.
  • Dean Stanton
    • prints these PDFs (2 copies of 3 pages) in color,
    • aligns a pair of pages (which need not be identical) **back-to-back**
    • puts the pair of sheets in a lamination pouch
    • laminates the pair of pages
    • uses a paper cutter to carefully trim the top and bottom
    • delaminates the pair of pages to result in two sheets with plastic on their display side
    • uses a paper cutter to carefully trim each page's sides off and then to cut individual images.
    • uses scissors to trim the award if it sticks out beyond the magnet or to trim the magnet if it sticks out beyond the award.

These laminated images are stuck to peel-and-stick magnets **only if needed**. We affix to magnets only what we think we'll need, to save money. We also buy the magnets in large quantities rarely, because that also saves money.

We start with

  • One par plaque for the RM and for each rallye worker (CP workers, registration workers, precheckers, assistant RMs) who want them.
  • One par plaque for each car competing. Assume that will be 10 cars and make more before they are needed to avoid slowing down rallyists.

At the start and/or finish, create

  • One pair of First Place awards for every class that has an entrant. (No First Timers? Then don't magnet any First Timer awards.)
  • One pair of Second Place awards for every class that has at least two entrants.

We could make only one such award if we have solo rallyists, so we don't magnet the second award they don't need (if it turns out that they win an award). The start box contains scissors, in case the awards need trimming.

Options

We could buy larger magnets and make larger awards, if desired. We have never asked rallyists if they would prefer those.

Rallyemasters can provide their own awards and participation plaques (par plaques), if they so choose. Well before your event, please contact the TRC Treasurer to discuss your budget, and contact the TRC Awards Committee to let them know not to provide our standard awards and/or par plaques for you.

Normally presented awards are now on a separate page.

OLD Information

This is from long ago, when Nick designed and ordered award pins.

Our standard rallye awards are custom 1-inch pins ordered from Little Awards, and our standard par plaques are business-card size refrigerator magnets. Each team gets one par plaque, and each winning team receives two pins (one for the driver and one for the navigator).

As of June, 2009, minimum lead time is

  • 3 weeks ahead for ordering award and/or worker pins
  • 1 week ahead for (3.5" x 2", 300 dpi) Par Plaques.
